Rennes beats Angers 2-0 in thrilling victory after two-game winless streak

Rennes has taken the next step towards their first Ligue 1 title since 2006, beating Angers 2-0 in a thrilling match that saw both teams push hard for victory.

The game was a perfect example of what makes French football so exciting – a back-and-forth affair with no clear dominant team. Rennes started brightly and took the lead through a well-taken goal from Anthony Lopes in the 34th minute. The Angers defence was caught napping as Lopes picked his spot to score, and the visitors were on the brink of claiming all three points.

However, Angers fought back and levelled the scores just before half-time when a deflected shot from a free-kick found the back of the net. It was a nervy period for both sides, but Rennes refused to give up and continued to push forward.

In the second half, Rennes finally broke through again, this time through a stunning strike from Yann M'Vila. The midfielder took on two defenders before unleashing a powerful shot into the top corner, giving the home fans reason to cheer.

Despite Angers putting up a fight, Rennes held on for the win and extended their unbeaten run to five games in all competitions. It was a remarkable display of resilience from the visitors, who had lost their previous two matches against Monaco and Paris Saint-Germain.

With only one game left to play, Rennes now sit six points clear at the top of the table, leaving them in pole position to secure their first Ligue 1 crown since 2006. The team will be looking to build on this impressive performance and continue their winning ways as they aim to defend their title come the end of the season.
